One of 315 employees at the Canby Fred Meyer store has tested positive for Covid-19, corporate officials confirmed Wednesday.
Jeffery Temple, Fred Meyer’s director of corporate affairs, said the store associate has been self-quarantining in accordance with the company’s emergency leave guidelines. The store was deep-cleaned by a third-party sanitation company on June 19, he added.
“At Fred Meyer, our associates are like family,” Temple said in an email to the Canby Now Podcast. “We are in communication with our associate that has tested positive to assist in their needs. Our thoughts are with them as they recover, and we wish them well.”
Temple said Fred Meyer, which is owned and operated by Kroger, the nation’s largest supermarket retailer, has taken “extensive measures” to safeguard their associates, customers and supply chain, including requiring and providing face masks for all employees, installing plexiglass shields at checkout stands and applying educational floor decals to aid physical distancing.
Store capacity has also been reduced to 35 percent of normal, and employees are screened for fever and other symptoms before beginning their shifts.
The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus have surged in the community of Canby this month, though much of this is due to a large outbreak at the Marquis Hope Village Post-Acute Rehab center.
Whatever the cause, Canby’s ZIP code has seen 111 confirmed cases as of Sunday, June 21, which is the most of any city in Clackamas County. Its infection rate of 48.9 confirmed cases per 10,000 residents is the highest in the county as well.
