Multiple Clackamas Fire District units responded to a brush fire that broke out near the historic Oregon City Municipal Elevator early Sunday morning.
Officials said witnesses first reported the brush fire was burning near the elevator and moving quickly from the bottom of the cliff toward High Street on top of the bluff.
Firefighters attacked the blaze from the top of the cliff and from Railroad Avenue at the bottom.
Crews were able to quickly contain the blaze and put it out, officials said.
No one was injured and no evacuations were needed. Investigators later reported that the fire had been caused by sparks from a passing train.
Clackamas Fire, Canby Fire and other area districts are currently at the extreme risk level for fire danger, meaning even recreational fires and fire pits are prohibited.
