Drunken driving is a suspected factor in a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred shortly after midnight Wednesday on the Hubbard Cutoff Road (Highway 551) near Aurora State Airport, according to the Oregon State Police.
OSP investigators say the crash was caused when a Toyota Camry driven by 29-year-old Kelsie Martin, of Beavercreek, collided head-on with a Toyota Prius driven by 33-year-old Stephanie Patricio, of Woodburn. The crash occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. Jan. 22, near milepost 1 on Highway 551.
Patricio sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased when first responders arrived on the scene. Martin sustained serious injuries and was transported by Life Flight to OHSU in Portland. A passenger who was with Martin was not seriously injured.
Investigators believe that alcohol impairment on Martin’s part was a contributing factor, according to a release late Wednesday morning. As of Saturday morning, Martin was still being treated at OHSU, but her condition had been upgraded to fair.
The Hubbard Cutoff was closed for several hours this morning causing numerous traffic delays in the area for the morning commute but has since reopened. OSP was assisted by Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Canby Police Department, Aurora Fire District, Woodburn Ambulance and ODOT.
