PORTLAND, Ore. — A Portland woman died following a collision between an electric scooter and a car in North Portland last week, police confirmed.
The victim, identified as 41-year-old Alicia M. Long, passed away on October 23 at a local hospital, one day after the crash. The Portland Police Bureau said the collision occurred early Wednesday morning, October 22, around 1:45 a.m., at the intersection of North Vancouver Avenue and North Weidler Street.
According to investigators, officers from the North Precinct were on patrol in the area when they saw a Lime e-scooter traveling west on Weidler Street — against the one-way traffic flow. The rider entered the intersection and collided with a 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 SUV that was heading south on North Vancouver Avenue with a green light.

Officers at the scene immediately requested medical assistance, provided aid to the injured rider, and blocked traffic to secure the area. Emergency responders transported Long to the hospital with serious injuries that were initially believed to be non-life-threatening. However, police later received word from a family member that her condition had worsened and she was not expected to survive.
Investigators said Long was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The driver of the Mercedes remained at the scene and cooperated fully with authorities during the investigation.
The Portland Police Bureau continues to investigate the incident. They have not issued any citations or criminal charges at this time and are reviewing evidence to determine the exact cause of the crash.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of following traffic rules and safety measures when using e-scooters. Portland officials have urged riders to stay within marked lanes, travel in the correct direction, and always wear a helmet to reduce the risk of serious injuries.
