Woodburn Teen Arrested After DUII Hit-and-Run Crash

Police Respond to Late-Night Crash

An 18-year-old from Woodburn has been arrested after a hit-and-run crash Friday night, according to the Woodburn Police Department (WPD). The incident occurred around 9:40 p.m. on October 17, near Hardcastle Avenue and North Front Street.

When officers arrived, they found that a vehicle had lost control and crashed into property owned by Union Pacific Railroad. Both the driver and a passenger escaped the wreck without injury and fled the scene on foot.

Suspects Located and Arrested

Police quickly began searching the area and located the two individuals nearby. Authorities said the driver, identified only as an 18-year-old Woodburn resident, was taken into custody without further incident.

Court records and the suspect’s name were not immediately available as of Monday.

The passenger, also a minor, was cited for minor in possession of alcohol, while the driver faced several more serious charges.

Multiple Charges Filed

According to Woodburn police, the teen driver was arrested on suspicion of:

  • Driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII)

  • Minor in possession of alcohol

  • Hit and run

  • Reckless driving

  • Recklessly endangering another person

  • First-degree criminal mischief

Following the arrest, the driver was transported to the Marion County Jail for booking.

No Injuries Reported, Investigation Ongoing

Authorities confirmed that no one was injured in the crash, though the vehicle caused significant damage to railroad property.

Woodburn police are continuing to investigate the incident, including how the crash occurred and whether additional factors, such as speed or alcohol consumption, contributed.

Officials said the case will be referred to the Marion County District Attorney’s Office for review once the investigation is complete.

Police Emphasize Road Safety

Law enforcement officials used the incident as a reminder of the dangers of impaired driving, particularly among young people.

“Driving under the influence endangers lives — both of those behind the wheel and everyone around them,” a WPD spokesperson said. “We urge parents and teens alike to make responsible decisions and plan safe rides home.”

The Woodburn Police Department encourages anyone with further information about the crash to contact investigators.
