Two Arrested After Portland Street Takeover; Suspect Crashes Into Police Vehicle

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Two men are facing charges after separate street takeover events in Portland over the weekend that authorities say involved dangerous stunts, fireworks, and a crash that injured two police officers.

First Takeover on North Columbia Boulevard

The first incident occurred around 10 p.m. Friday, when officers with the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) responded to reports of suspected street racing along North Columbia Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they found roughly ten vehicles taking part in an illegal street takeover, blocking traffic and performing risky maneuvers.

Police detained 30-year-old Daniel Miahalut of Portland, citing him for reckless driving and unlawful street takeover. His BMW was towed in accordance with city code, and the remaining vehicles quickly dispersed after police intervention.

Authorities described the scene as “dangerous and disruptive,” emphasizing that such activities put participants, spectators, and bystanders at serious risk.

Second Incident Near the Moda Center

A second street takeover was reported around 12:40 a.m. Sunday near the Moda Center and Rose Quarter Transit Center. According to PPB, several vehicles were performing stunts while crowds set off fireworks, blocking all lanes of traffic and halting transit services.

Officers from multiple precincts, along with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, moved in to disperse the crowd.

During the operation, a driver identified as 20-year-old Steven Servito of Kent, Washington, allegedly drifted his vehicle through the intersection of Northeast Multnomah Street and Northeast Interstate Avenue, striking a PPB patrol car.

Two officers inside the vehicle sustained minor injuries but were treated at the scene by first responders. The damaged patrol car was later towed for inspection.

Suspect Faces Multiple Charges

Servito was taken into custody and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center. He faces multiple charges, including:

  • Two counts of assault of a police officer

  • Reckless driving

  • Two counts of reckless endangerment

Authorities described Servito’s actions as “reckless and intentional,” noting that the drifting maneuver directly endangered officers and the crowd nearby.

Police Condemn Street Takeovers

In a statement released Monday, the Portland Police Bureau said these incidents highlight the growing danger of illegal street takeovers in the city. Officers noted that such gatherings often involve large groups, high-speed stunts, and property damage, creating volatile situations that can quickly escalate into violence or injury.

PPB is continuing to investigate both events and has asked anyone with information, photos, or videos to come forward. Tips can be submitted through the Portland Police Bureau’s non-emergency line or online reporting system.

Officials reaffirmed their commitment to curbing street racing and reckless driving across Portland, urging the public to report suspicious activity before it escalates.
