True Crime Tuesday: Unanswered Questions Remain in Deadly Portland Motel Shooting

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Months after a deadly shooting at a North Portland motel, investigators are still piecing together what happened and who is responsible for the death of Philip E. Redmon.

The Incident

On the night of August 11, 2025, Portland Police officers were called to the Portland Super Value Inn on North Interstate Avenue just after 8 p.m. for reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they discovered Redmon inside one of the motel rooms with a gunshot wound. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities quickly secured the area, taping off the motel parking lot as homicide detectives and forensic teams began their investigation. Witnesses were questioned, and police reviewed surveillance footage from nearby businesses in hopes of identifying potential suspects.

An Ongoing Investigation

Police have released few details about the events leading up to Redmon’s death. It remains unclear whether the shooting stemmed from a dispute, a robbery, or another motive entirely. As of now, no arrests have been made, and detectives continue to seek information from the public.

Officials have urged anyone with knowledge of the shooting to contact the Portland Police Bureau’s Homicide Unit, emphasizing that even small details could help bring closure to Redmon’s family.

Community and Media Focus

The case recently resurfaced on AM Extra’s “True Crime Tuesday” segment, where the co-hosts of the popular Murder in the Rain podcast revisited the still-active investigation. They discussed how the crime fits into Portland’s broader struggle with gun violence, noting that the case has left many residents uneasy about safety in the area.

The Super Value Inn, located along one of Portland’s busiest corridors, has been the site of previous police activity. Residents and nearby business owners have expressed frustration over recurring violence and the lack of answers in this particular case.

Seeking Justice for Philip Redmon

Friends and acquaintances of Redmon describe him as a kind and hardworking man whose life ended far too soon. His death adds to a troubling trend of fatal shootings in the city, many of which remain unsolved.

Police say their work continues behind the scenes, with detectives following up on leads and awaiting results from forensic testing. Still, months later, questions linger — who shot Philip Redmon, and why?

Anyone with information is asked to contact Portland Police homicide detectives at 503-823-0400 or email homicidetips@police.portlandoregon.gov.

As the investigation stretches on, both investigators and the community hope new information will finally shed light on the mystery surrounding this tragic motel killing.
