PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Three teenagers were arrested in Salem on Friday night after authorities found them with several firearms, including an AR-style rifle, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident began around 9 p.m., when deputies responded to reports of three young men tagging a mailbox in the 4600 block of 39th Avenue Northeast. Upon arrival, deputies located a white sedan matching the description, with the suspects inside.
During the investigation, deputies noticed open alcohol containers in the vehicle. As they approached, one of the suspects fled on foot, officials said. While being chased, the teen dropped a firearm before being caught and taken into custody shortly afterward.

Authorities said the three suspects—two 18-year-olds and one 19-year-old—were booked into the Marion County Jail on charges of unlawful use of a weapon.

The 19-year-old faces third-degree escape and resisting arrest.

One 18-year-old was charged with giving false information and third-degree escape.

The other 18-year-old faces charges for providing alcohol to a minor and a parole violation.
After a K-9 unit assisted in a detailed search of the area, deputies recovered three handguns and an AR-style rifle equipped with a drum magazine.
The Sheriff’s Office has not released the suspects’ names but confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing. Officials credited the quick coordination between responding deputies and K-9 officers for safely recovering the weapons and detaining the suspects without further incident.
