PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — U.S. Marshals have arrested a second suspect in connection with the April killing of 13-year-old Liam Spahnle-Bailey, who was fatally struck by stray bullets while sleeping inside his father’s apartment in Gresham.
Officials confirmed that Xavier Romello Hirsch was taken into custody Friday in Beaverton by a joint task force that included U.S. Marshals, Washington County Sheriff’s deputies, and Beaverton police officers.
The Tragic Shooting
The deadly shooting occurred on April 27 at the Eleven Pines Apartment Complex in Gresham. According to investigators, multiple gunshots were fired outside the building, and several bullets penetrated the walls of the apartment where Liam was sleeping. One of those rounds struck and killed the 13-year-old boy.

At the time of the shooting, Liam was staying with his father. Authorities believe the gunfire was not targeted at the family but was instead part of an altercation between individuals outside the complex.
The tragedy left the Gresham community in shock and mourning. Family members described Liam as a kind, curious, and loving boy who enjoyed video games and spending time with friends.
Arrests and Ongoing Search
Friday’s arrest marks the second major development in the case. Earlier, on September 9, police arrested 21-year-old Anthony Hunter Jr. in Northeast Portland in connection with Liam’s death.
Detectives say that Hirsch and Hunter were among three individuals involved in the shooting. Authorities are still searching for the third suspect, 17-year-old Terrell Coy, who remains at large.
A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to Coy’s arrest. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts to contact Gresham police or Crime Stoppers of Oregon.
Community Still Grieving
Liam’s family continues to mourn his loss while calling for justice. A photo shared by relatives shows the smiling 13-year-old whose life was cut short by senseless violence.
Neighbors at the Eleven Pines complex say the incident has left them fearful and heartbroken. “He was just a child, sleeping in his bed. It could have been anyone,” one resident said.
Moving Toward Justice
Police say the investigation remains active as they piece together the events leading up to the shooting. Both Hirsch and Hunter face multiple charges related to Liam’s death, though officials have not released full details about their alleged roles.
Authorities hope the arrest of Hirsch brings the family one step closer to closure — but until the final suspect is found, the case remains unfinished.
Anyone with information about Terrell Coy is encouraged to report tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers of Oregon.
