PORTLAND, Ore. – A beloved Southeast Portland dive bar that shut its doors earlier this summer is gearing up for a comeback. Slow Bar, long known for its cocktails and the iconic Slowburger, will reopen next month under new ownership.
A Neighborhood Fixture Since 2004
Located in Portland’s Central Eastside, Slow Bar first opened in 2004 and quickly became a neighborhood favorite. Its dimly lit, laid-back atmosphere and strong drinks earned it a loyal following, but it was the Slowburger that cemented its reputation citywide.
The towering burger—crafted with a thick beef patty, melted Gruyère, house-made pickles, and a crispy onion ring—became a cult favorite, often hailed as one of the best burgers in Portland.
Closing Its Doors
In early August, Slow Bar abruptly closed, leaving regulars uncertain about its future. The closure marked the end of a two-decade run and stirred plenty of nostalgia among longtime patrons.
For many, it wasn’t just another bar—it was a gathering place that represented the spirit of Portland’s dive bar culture.
A New Chapter
Now, just weeks later, Slow Bar is preparing for its revival. New owners have stepped in with plans to preserve the bar’s signature vibe while refreshing its operations. While full details about the new ownership and planned changes have yet to be released, the owners have promised that the Slowburger will return in all its glory.
That reassurance alone has sparked excitement among fans eager to get back to their favorite barstools.
Anticipation Builds
The reopening is slated for next month, though an exact date has not yet been announced. In the meantime, word of Slow Bar’s revival is spreading quickly through Portland’s food and nightlife circles.
For many, the return of the bar represents more than just the reopening of a watering hole—it’s the continuation of a Portland classic, complete with the burger that made it famous.
