PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — A 72-year-old Portland man with dementia who had been reported missing was found safe late Friday night, thanks to the vigilance of a concerned community member.
According to the Portland Police Bureau, William Greenough was located just before midnight on Nov. 8, 2025, in the 600 block of Northeast 82nd Avenue. Authorities said a resident spotted him and immediately called 911, allowing officers to respond swiftly and ensure his safety.
Missing from Care Home
Greenough was first reported missing earlier on Friday afternoon after leaving his care home located at 11300 N.E. Weidler Street around 3:30 p.m. Police shared his description publicly and urged residents to keep an eye out for him, emphasizing that he requires medication for ongoing health conditions.

At the time of his disappearance, Greenough was wearing a salmon-colored long-sleeve shirt and blue sweatpants. He is described as 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighing approximately 225 pounds, with graying hair and a beard. Authorities also noted that due to his dementia, he might have been confused or unable to remember personal details such as his name or age.
