Clackamas County, OR — On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at approximately 11:39 a.m., the Oregon State Police (OSP) responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 205 near milepost 5 in Clackamas County.
According to the preliminary investigation, a northbound Dodge Dakota, driven by Nicholas Russell Palmeri, 43, of Wilsonville, left the roadway for reasons yet to be determined and collided with a tree.
Emergency personnel from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue and ODOT assisted at the scene. Despite their efforts, Palmeri was pronounced deceased at the location. The crash resulted in significant traffic impacts, with portions of the highway closed for roughly four hours during the on-scene investigation.

Authorities have not yet determined what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. The Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is leading the investigation to analyze the incident and gather additional evidence.
The CRU is a specialized division within OSP tasked with investigating fatal and serious-injury traffic collisions across Oregon’s highways. Its members are highly trained in advanced crash documentation and reconstruction, using tools such as small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) and other precise measurement technologies. The team includes ACTAR-accredited collision reconstructionists and technical investigators stationed statewide to assist in complex crash scenes.
The investigation into the fatal I-205 crash remains ongoing.
