GRESHAM, Ore. – Police have arrested one of three suspects wanted in connection with the killing of 13-year-old Liam Spahnle-Bailey, who was fatally shot while sleeping in his bed earlier this year.
Arrest Made in Portland
On Tuesday, Sept. 9, Gresham Police, working alongside Portland Police and the U.S. Marshals Service, executed a search warrant at a home in Northeast Portland. During the operation, they arrested Anthony Hunter Jr., who is accused of playing a role in the April 27 shooting.
“This arrest brings one dangerous fugitive into custody, but our work is not done,” said Gresham Police Chief Travis Gullberg. “Two suspects are still wanted for Liam’s murder. Our officers, detectives, and law enforcement partners will not stop until they are found and apprehended.”

Tragedy in the Night
Spahnle-Bailey’s death shocked the Gresham community. In the early hours of Sunday, April 27, gunfire erupted in a neighboring apartment. Several bullets pierced through the wall and struck the boy as he slept in his bed.
Investigators have not disclosed what triggered the shooting, but they confirmed the teen was an unintended victim. His killing has become a rallying point for local officials and community members demanding an end to senseless violence.
Ongoing Pursuit of Justice
For Liam’s family, Hunter’s arrest represents progress, but justice remains incomplete until all suspects are in custody. Detectives continue to follow leads and are hopeful that public cooperation will help bring closure to the case.
“Our community deserves peace, and Liam’s family deserves justice,” Chief Gullberg emphasized. “We won’t stop until every person responsible for this tragedy is held accountable.”
