PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A tragic house fire in Southeast Portland claimed one life early Wednesday morning, according to Portland Fire & Rescue.
At approximately 3:45 a.m., firefighters were called to a home in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood after reports of a large blaze. When crews arrived, they encountered heavy flames and thick smoke coming from the back side of the residence.
Challenging Conditions for Firefighters
Fire officials said the interior of the home was packed with floor-to-ceiling clutter, which made navigating through the house extremely difficult during the search and rescue efforts. Due to blocked entryways, firefighters had to enter the home through a window, where they faced intense heat conditions.
