Details of the Incident

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 5:11 p.m. when officers received reports of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle on the highway. The victim was identified as Larry Joseph Mervin Jacobs, 66, a resident of Newberg. The Oregon State Police are leading the investigation, with assistance from local emergency crews. At this stage, officials have not released details about the possible cause of the crash or whether factors such as visibility, speed, or impairment played a role.

Community Impact

The accident has deeply affected the Newberg and Yamhill County communities, where residents are mourning the sudden loss. Authorities have reminded both drivers and pedestrians to remain vigilant, especially during low-light hours when visibility is reduced.

Ongoing Inquiry

As of now, the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Law enforcement has not indicated if any charges are expected to be filed. The Oregon State Police have asked anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward to assist in their inquiry.

This tragic event serves as a somber reminder of the dangers pedestrians face on rural roadways and the importance of exercising caution for everyone sharing the road.
