Man Pleads Guilty After Milwaukie Standoff, Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison

OREGON CITY, Ore. – A Milwaukie man who sparked a tense standoff with law enforcement earlier this summer has been sentenced to five years in prison after entering a guilty plea in Clackamas County court.

Guilty Plea and Sentencing

35-year-old Rian Keith Pittman pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office, several additional charges against Pittman were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. On Friday, the court handed down a five-year prison sentence.

Standoff in Milwaukie

The charges stem from an incident on the evening of July 8, when Clackamas County deputies and Milwaukie Police responded to Pittman’s residence near SE Monroe Street and SE Linwood Avenue.

Authorities say Pittman became aggressive during the encounter, threatening officers with a semi-automatic handgun. Witnesses reported him shouting for deputies to “get out,” pointing the weapon directly at law enforcement, and firing rounds inside the home.

For more than two hours, law enforcement officers attempted to de-escalate the volatile situation. The standoff finally ended just after 11 p.m., when Pittman surrendered without further incident and was taken into custody.

Criminal History Across States

Court records reveal Pittman has a lengthy criminal background, with prior convictions in California, Washington, Oregon, and Nevada.

Officials said his history and continued use of firearms despite prior felony convictions played a significant role in the charges and sentence he faced in Clackamas County.

Community and Law Enforcement Response

The incident raised concerns in the Milwaukie neighborhood, where residents were forced to shelter in place as heavily armed officers surrounded Pittman’s home. Fortunately, no officers or civilians were injured during the confrontation.

The Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office emphasized that the sentence reflects the seriousness of Pittman’s actions and his ongoing threat to public safety.

Conclusion

Pittman will now serve his five-year prison term in Oregon custody. Upon release, he will still face restrictions as a convicted felon, including prohibitions on firearm possession.

Law enforcement officials say the outcome underscores the importance of accountability when repeat offenders engage in dangerous behavior that threatens both police and the public.
