Homicide Investigation Underway After Person Found Dead in Downtown Portland Parking Lot

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was found dead early Sunday morning in a downtown Portland parking lot.

Authorities said officers responded to reports of a person lying on the ground at approximately 4:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Southwest 3rd Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a male victim who was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Evidence Points to Shooting

According to officials, evidence recovered from the scene suggests that the victim may have been shot. However, the exact cause and manner of death will be confirmed following an autopsy by the medical examiner’s office.

Investigators believe that any possible suspect or suspects fled the area before police arrived. At this stage, no arrests have been made, and authorities are working to determine the events leading up to the man’s death.

Police Seek Public’s Help

The Portland Police Bureau’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case and asking anyone with information or potential surveillance footage from the area to come forward.

Detectives said public cooperation is often vital in helping to identify suspects or understand the circumstances surrounding such violent incidents. Tips can be submitted directly to the police through official channels.

Broader Context

This case adds to the ongoing concern over gun violence in Portland, which continues to be a focus for both city officials and law enforcement agencies. The incident occurred just hours after police responded to another serious accident involving a 13-year-old boy struck by a car in Southeast Portland, underscoring a busy weekend for emergency responders.

Authorities are urging residents and visitors in the downtown area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police immediately.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation remains active, and updates are expected as detectives gather additional evidence and witness statements.
