Hero Gresham Firefighter’s Truck Stolen While He Recovers from Severe Burns

GRESHAM, Ore. – A Gresham firefighter who has already endured a long and difficult recovery from severe burn injuries is now facing a new hardship: his truck was stolen in Portland over the weekend.

Firefighter in Recovery

Spencer Tejedas, a respected member of the Gresham Fire Department, suffered life-threatening burns in the line of duty. After months of treatment and rehabilitation, he recently rejoined the department, determined to continue serving his community and mentoring the next generation of firefighters.

But as Tejedas continues to rebuild his life, he was dealt another blow when his personal vehicle was taken.

Tejedas told KATU News that his truck, a blue/green metallic 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, was stolen on Sunday, August 31, at 1:45 p.m. in the Bridgeton neighborhood of north Portland.

The stolen vehicle is distinctive and carries several identifying features:

  • Oregon license plate: 128 MRG

  • Matching color canopy with an all-black IAFF sticker (International Association of Fire Fighters)

  • Black painted plasti-dip wheels

  • Small scratches on the front driver-side panel

Police and Tejedas are urging the public to keep an eye out for the truck.

Community Asked to Help

The theft has left many in the firefighting community and the wider Gresham area shaken. Tejedas is not only admired for his bravery but also for his perseverance in returning to service after a traumatic injury.

Now, residents are being asked to assist in recovering his vehicle. Anyone who spots the stolen Silverado is urged to call 503-779-7864 immediately and report the sighting. Authorities stress that members of the public should not approach the vehicle or suspects themselves.

Another Hurdle for a Dedicated Firefighter

For Tejedas, the stolen truck is more than just a vehicle. It represents independence during his ongoing recovery and a practical tool for daily life. Losing it adds another layer of stress to a firefighter who has already faced unimaginable challenges.

Friends and supporters have expressed outrage at the theft, describing it as a cruel act against someone who has dedicated his career to protecting others.

Moving Forward

Despite this setback, Tejedas remains committed to his work and recovery. The Gresham Fire Department continues to support him as he regains strength and pursues his goal of shaping future firefighters.

Community members hope the stolen truck will be recovered soon and are rallying around Tejedas during yet another difficult moment in his journey.
