Free Pet Care Clinic to Support Struggling Pet Owners in Downtown Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Pet owners in need will have an opportunity to access essential care for their furry companions this week. The Oregon Humane Society (OHS) has partnered with Blanchet House to host a free pet care clinic in downtown Portland on Tuesday.

Location and Timing

The clinic will take place in the Lan Su Chinese Garden parking lot, directly across from Blanchet House on Northwest Glisan Street. This accessible downtown spot ensures that individuals experiencing homelessness or financial hardship can easily reach the event.

Free Services for Pets

Organizers shared that the clinic will provide a range of veterinary and pet care services at no cost, including:

  • Routine vaccinations to protect against common diseases

  • Flea and tick treatments to ensure animal comfort and safety

  • Pet food for cats and dogs

  • Leashes, collars, and other supplies to help owners better care for their pets

These services aim to support those who love their animals but face barriers in accessing veterinary care or essential pet items.

Monthly Outreach Effort

This event is part of an ongoing outreach effort by the Oregon Humane Society and local volunteers. The veterinarian leading the clinic regularly sets up a care table outside Blanchet House once a month, providing consistent help to Portland’s most vulnerable pet owners.

By partnering with community service organizations like Blanchet House—known for providing meals, clothing, and shelter support—the Oregon Humane Society continues to expand its reach to underserved pet owners across the city.

A Lifeline for People and Pets

The initiative recognizes that for many people living on the streets or struggling financially, their pets are family. Offering free vaccines and care helps keep those animals healthy while strengthening the bond between owners and their companions.

The Oregon Humane Society encourages anyone in need of help for their pets to visit the clinic on Tuesday and take advantage of the free services available.
