First-Ever “Scare at the Fair” Coming to Oregon State Fairgrounds

A New Halloween Tradition Begins

SALEM, Ore. — This fall, the Oregon State Fair and Exposition Center will transform into a hub of Halloween thrills with the launch of Scare at the Fair, a brand-new event promising 14 nights of frights and fun.

Organized by Fright Planet, the event will run from October 10 through November 2, marking the first time the fairgrounds have hosted an attraction of this scale dedicated to spooky season celebrations.

Haunted Houses With a Twist

At the heart of Scare at the Fair are four haunted houses, each with its own immersive storyline designed to terrify and delight visitors:

  • Distorted – a twisted maze of illusions and unsettling surprises.

  • Höbart’s Doll Factory – a nightmare world where creepy dolls come to life.

  • The Painted Ones – eerie characters emerge from shadows in a chilling display of fear.

  • BLACKOUT – a pitch-dark experience where guests navigate fear guided only by their senses.

Organizers say the haunted attractions are crafted to appeal to both seasoned horror fans and those new to haunted houses.

More Than Just Scares

Scare at the Fair isn’t limited to haunted houses. For guests seeking thrills without the terror, the event will also feature rides and attractions, giving everyone an option to enjoy the festive atmosphere.

Local vendors and themed performers will add to the experience, creating a Halloween carnival environment across the fairgrounds.

Tickets and Pricing

While entrance to the fairgrounds will be free, tickets are required for unlimited access to the haunted houses and rides. Tickets are now available online through the official Scare at the Fair website.

Organizers are offering a special deal for opening weekend: from September 22 through 24, tickets can be purchased for just $13. After that, prices will increase, encouraging early buyers to lock in the discounted rate.

A Seasonal Highlight for Salem

The Oregon State Fairgrounds, long known for its summer fairs and community events, is embracing a new role as a Halloween destination. Event organizers hope Scare at the Fair will become an annual tradition, drawing visitors from across the state.

“This is about creating something for everyone — from the hardcore haunted house fans to families who just want to enjoy the festive atmosphere,” organizers said in a statement.

With four immersive haunted houses, rides, live entertainment, and themed vendors, Scare at the Fair is shaping up to be one of Salem’s most anticipated fall attractions.
