CT Driver Clocked At 118 MPH On I-95, Police Say

Stratford, US: A late-night traffic stop in Stratford turned into a high-speed headline after police said a New York driver was caught traveling at 118 miles per hour along Interstate 95.

According to authorities, the incident happened earlier this week on the busy highway stretch when an officer conducting speed enforcement noticed a vehicle barreling northbound well above the posted speed limit. The driver, identified as a New York resident, was pulled over after being clocked at nearly double the maximum legal speed.

Police described the vehicle, which was weaving aggressively through traffic, as a significant hazard to other motorists on the road. Despite the potential for a dangerous chase, officers safely stopped the car without incident. No injuries were reported.

The motorist now faces multiple charges, including reckless driving and speeding at a rate deemed criminally negligent due to the extreme speed recorded. Officials emphasized that driving at more than 100 miles per hour not only endangers the driver but also puts every commuter and traveler on I-95 at serious risk.

“We want to remind drivers that excessive speeds like this are not just traffic violations—they are life-threatening decisions,” Stratford police stated following the arrest.

The Connecticut State Police and local authorities have been increasing patrols along I-95, a corridor frequently monitored for speeding, impaired driving, and aggressive maneuvers. With heavy daily traffic and frequent congestion, officials say the highway is among the most dangerous routes in the state for reckless driving.

The driver was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court later this month. Police added that stricter enforcement campaigns will continue through the fall in a push to curb high-speed driving and reduce roadway crashes.

For commuters and weekend travelers alike, the message was clear: respect the limits, or risk severe penalties.
