PORTLAND, Ore. — A man is in critical condition after being shot outside a Wood Village apartment complex earlier this week. Newly released court documents reveal the shooting suspect may have carried out a spree of robberies across the Portland metro area that same night.
Shooting at Byway Apartments
On Monday night, Multnomah County deputies responded to reports of gunfire at the Byway Apartments on Northeast Halsey Street. When they arrived, they found a man collapsed on the roadway. He was rushed to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
According to investigators, the victim and his brother had been working earlier that evening at the nearby Byway Market. Court filings state that a masked man armed with a pistol stormed into the store, yelling: “Give me everything you’ve got. This is for real.”

The clerks told him there was no cash available, and the suspect fled without taking anything. The brothers followed him outside. One attempted to photograph the suspect’s vehicle as he drove off. The victim reportedly ran after the car.
Court documents say the suspect then stopped, turned around, and fired a single shot, striking the victim, who collapsed in the street.
Evidence Found Near the Scene
As deputies searched the area, they located a black hoodie, black ski mask, and khaki pants discarded nearby. When one deputy lifted the hoodie, a black handgun fell from its pocket.
Neighbors also reported suspicious encounters. One homeowner said a man matching the suspect’s description entered his backyard through a gate and casually drank a Sprite left on a table after a family barbecue. Another resident said he saw a man in his yard asking to come inside, claiming, “They made me rob someone.” Both homeowners told him to leave.
Suspect Arrested
Officers later found Inteus Michael Brewington, 25, hiding in a carport. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Prosecutors now allege Brewington was not only responsible for the Wood Village shooting but also for three armed robberies carried out earlier that evening.

Mr. Peeps, SE 122nd Avenue (before 8 p.m.): Employees said a masked man entered with a gun, demanded money, and left with about $300.

Step In Market, SE Stark Street (around 9:30 p.m.): A clerk reported that a masked gunman in a black hoodie demanded cash and escaped with at least $300.

Plaid Pantry, NE 242nd Drive (about 10:15 p.m.): Just minutes before the Byway Market encounter, a gunman reportedly demanded cash, saying, “Let’s do this… give me what you got.” He left with just over $18, the only money in the register.
Authorities believe Brewington committed each of these robberies before confronting the Byway Market clerks.
Suspect’s Statement to Police
When interviewed by investigators, Brewington allegedly admitted to smoking methamphetamine earlier in the day. He claimed the drugs may have been laced with crack cocaine, saying the mixture left him paranoid and unstable.
Charges Filed
Brewington was arraigned on Wednesday and faces an extensive list of charges:

Prosecutors say more charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
Victim in Critical Condition
The shooting victim, whose name has not been released, remains hospitalized in critical condition. His brother told deputies he had been trying to help identify the suspect’s car when the shooting occurred.
Authorities described the victim as an innocent store clerk caught in the chaos of a violent spree.
