Canby Seniors Lead the Way in 2025 Fall Season

Seniors are the heart of any high school sports program — the leaders, motivators, and examples for younger teammates. As the 2025 fall season nears its end, Canby High School celebrates its senior athletes who have given their all to Cougar athletics.

Football:
As of Oct. 24, the 20th-ranked Cougars are 4-1 in Special District 2 play and 4-4 overall, fighting for a playoff spot. Leading the charge are seniors Aaron Austin (WR/DB), Will Keeney (WR/DB), Danner Michel (QB/DB, captain), Aidrian Thomas (RB/LB), Jarrett Kelly (OL/DL), Noah Nieto (OL/DL, captain), Ethan Jeffery (OL/DL), and Marcus Butts (OL/DL). These seniors have anchored both sides of the ball, combining leadership with grit.

Volleyball:
Ranked 22nd in Class 5A, the Cougars finished fourth in the Northwest Oregon Conference at 9-7 (10-11 overall), securing a playoff berth. The senior class includes Kinsley Morrow (MB/Opp), Genevea Diggles (MB/OH, captain), Kindra Slagle (Opp), and Lola Hanson (OH). Their teamwork and experience have pushed Canby through a competitive season.

Boys Soccer:
The 18th-ranked Cougars stand 9-5-1 overall and 4-4 in conference play, finishing fifth. Seniors leading the team are goalkeeper Luis Zamora Enriquez; defenders Jesus Alvarado Cabello, Devyn Kinzie, and Leo Perez Garcia; midfielders Diego Barajas Avila, Jose Zurita Mendoza, Anthony Ledesma Reyes (captain), and Jordan Lopez; and forwards Carlos Ricardez Velasco, Alex Jimenez, and Eryck Jimenez Uribe. Together, they’ve built a strong defensive core and creative attack.

Girls Soccer:
The ninth-ranked Cougars wrapped up the regular season 8-7 overall and 4-4 in conference play. Senior standouts include Misha Milano, Bella Capra, Abella Leder, Jenna Butler, Ella Carter, Audrey Haycock, and Carina Sánchez — a group known for their energy, teamwork, and leadership on and off the field.

Boys Cross Country:
The boys’ team dominated much of the regular season, winning two of three Northwest Oregon Conference meets. Seniors Brendan Snyder, Corbin Stoddart, Cougar Newsome, and Cruz Gonzalez have set the pace for their teammates, both literally and figuratively, as they prepared for the district meet at Blue Lake Park on Oct. 30.

Girls Cross Country:
The girls’ squad showed consistent strength, finishing second twice and third once in conference meets. Seniors Maddie Fox, Ellie Dolan, Jazmine Evans, Madi Vissers, and Nona Chernishov have led by example, pushing each other and their team toward success at the district meet.

Across every sport, Canby’s senior athletes have left their mark — not just through their stats and records, but through their dedication, sportsmanship, and love for their teams. As the fall season wraps up, the Cougars’ future shines bright, thanks to the seniors who paved the way.
