Canby High Dance Team Ready to Kick Off Competition Season

Months of preparation are about to pay off for the Canby High School dance team as they head into a packed fall DDCA competition season. After beginning rehearsals in August, the Cougars have been perfecting their routines, and now they’re set to show off their hard work on the competition floor.

Strong Start at the NWOC League Showcase

The team got a preview of the season ahead during the Northwest Oregon Conference (NWOC) League Showcase on October 23 at Parkrose High School. Teams from Canby, Parkrose, Milwaukie, Rex Putnam, Wilsonville, and Centennial each performed one routine, giving audiences a first look at the choreography and energy that will define this season.

While the showcase celebrated teamwork and performance, Canby also earned notable individual recognition. Five Canby seniors—Daniella Marquez, Allie Bowen, Lizzy Michaels, Elise Quinlan, and Jazzy Goldsmith—were named to the NWOC All-League Team and recognized during the event for their dedication and leadership.

Top Performances and Honors

Canby’s talent shone beyond the group routines. Sophomore Adalyn Clark placed in the top five in the novice drill down category, while seniors Lizzy Michaels and Daniella Marquez earned top-five finishes in the advanced drill down competition. These individual honors reflect the team’s focus on both personal growth and collective excellence.

Community Performance and “Thriller” VIP Night

Before official competition begins, the Cougars will entertain fans at their annual VIP dance performance during halftime of the Halloween football game on Friday, October 31. The team will perform a spooky rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” complete with special “zombie” Cougar shirts available for purchase at the Cougar Den and online through the Roar Store.

Upcoming Competition Schedule

The Cougars’ competitive season officially begins on November 15 at Clackamas High School, followed by another event at Reynolds High on November 22. After the Thanksgiving break, the team will compete again at Rex Putnam High School on December 6, wrapping up the year at the DDCA Invitational on December 13.

Looking ahead to 2026, the Canby dancers will take their performance to a bigger stage when they perform at halftime of the Portland Trail Blazers game on January 5. Fans can support the team by purchasing tickets through the official link provided by the Trail Blazers organization.

Dedication Behind the Dance

With months of rehearsals, countless hours of teamwork, and the guidance of their coaches, the Canby dance team is ready to showcase their energy, creativity, and school pride. As competition season begins, the Cougars are not just performing routines—they’re representing the spirit and determination that define Canby High School athletics and the local community.
