Beavers Shine at Ash Creek Collegiate

CORVALLIS, Ore. — The Oregon State women’s cross country team continued its strong opening to the 2025 season with a standout performance at the Ash Creek Collegiate, highlighted by four runners finishing in the top 20.

Hodgson Leads the Pack

Senior Maella Hodgson made her season debut in commanding fashion, securing second place overall with a time of 17:40.6. Her effort set the tone for the Beavers, who showed depth and balance in their lineup.

“She really put together a complete race,” said head coach Louie Quintana. “It’s always a good sign when your veteran athletes are performing at a high level early in the season.”

Strong Finishes for Ulrich and Kasprick

Not far behind Hodgson were teammates Delaney Ulrich and Cadence Kasprick, both racing in their season debuts. Ulrich clocked 18:00.6 to earn fourth place, while Kasprick followed just a second later at 18:01.5 for fifth.

Their near-identical finishes demonstrated the consistency within Oregon State’s top group. “Those two really pushed each other the entire way,” Quintana added. “That type of pack running is what will make us successful as the season goes on.”

Freshman Impresses in Debut

Adding to the Beavers’ strong showing was freshman Jadyn Kipe, who made her collegiate debut with a 16th-place finish. She completed the 5K course in 19:06.2, showing promise for the future.

“Jadyn ran with maturity well beyond her years,” Quintana said. “To place inside the top 20 in her first meet says a lot about her preparation and competitiveness.”

Looking Ahead

With four athletes already showing strong early-season form, the team appears poised to build momentum heading into larger regional and national meets later this fall.

A Program on the Rise

Oregon State cross country has been steadily climbing in recent years, and performances like those at Ash Creek continue to signal progress. With a mix of veteran leadership and promising newcomers, the Beavers are aiming to make their mark on the national stage this season.

As the team motto reminds them — “Go BEAVS” — the mission remains to build Excellent, Authentic, Visionary Student-Athletes while competing at the highest level.
