Alleged Hit-and-Run Crash Closes I-84 Onramp in Northeast Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) — A suspected hit-and-run crash caused the temporary closure of an Interstate 84 onramp in Northeast Portland on Tuesday evening, prompting a police investigation to locate the fleeing driver.

According to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), officers were called to the scene around 5:45 p.m. after reports of a collision on the I-84 Eastbound onramp from Northeast Willow Street and Northeast 60th Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a woman sitting on the curb near the crash site. She told police that her car had been rear-ended by another vehicle while entering the freeway. The driver responsible for the crash allegedly sped away immediately after the collision, leaving the woman behind.

Victim Not Seriously Injured

Police confirmed that the woman did not suffer any serious injuries in the crash. Paramedics evaluated her at the scene, but she did not require hospitalization. The damaged vehicle was towed from the area, and traffic on the onramp was briefly diverted while officers conducted their initial investigation.

Search for the Suspect

As of Wednesday morning, investigators had not yet located the driver involved in the crash. Police have also not released a description of the suspect’s vehicle. Officers are reviewing any available traffic camera footage and interviewing witnesses who may have seen the car fleeing the scene.

Authorities have urged anyone who was in the area between Northeast 60th Avenue and Willow Street around the time of the crash, or who may have dashcam footage, to contact the Portland Police Traffic Division.

Road Closure and Impact

The eastbound onramp to I-84 remained closed for a short period on Tuesday evening as crews cleared debris and investigators gathered evidence. The closure caused minor traffic delays during the evening commute but the ramp reopened later that night.

Ongoing Investigation

Police are treating the incident as a felony hit-and-run, which carries serious penalties under Oregon law when a driver leaves the scene of an accident involving injury or property damage.

The Portland Police Bureau continues to investigate the case and is asking the public for assistance in identifying the suspect driver.

Anyone with information related to the crash or the fleeing vehicle is encouraged to call (503) 823-3333 or submit a tip through the PPB website.
