Two recent letters to the editor reflect growing frustration and concern among Oregon residents regarding gubernatorial candidate Christine Drazan and the current state of political leadership in Oregon.
A Call for Accountability and Response
From Bob Grady, Canby
I’ve noticed several signs around Canby promoting Christine Drazan for Governor, which I find quite interesting given her current position as our local representative in the state legislature, alongside Senator Daniel Bonham.

Several weeks ago, I reached out to both Drazan and Bonham by email, asking where they stood on the possible deployment of National Guard troops to Portland amid recent public safety concerns. As of the writing of this letter, neither has responded.
What I did receive, however, were emails requesting campaign donations, which is disappointing. I believe elected officials owe their constituents clear answers before asking for financial support. Transparency and communication should be the foundation of public service.
Concerns Over Political Extremism
From a Concerned Conservative
As a lifelong conservative, I feel compelled to speak up about the troubling direction of the Republican Party—a direction that no longer reflects the values of true conservatism. What I see instead is an embrace of ugly nationalism, corruption, and greed.
Too many politicians, regardless of party, are motivated by wealth and power, rather than service to the people. Yet, in recent years, it seems conservatives have become the loudest contributors to this chaos.
I’m deeply concerned about Christine Drazan’s alignment with former President Donald Trump and his circle of followers. This connection makes her, in my opinion, a poor choice for governor. The kind of rhetoric and policies associated with Trump’s faction—marked by intolerance and disregard for constitutional rights—have no place in Oregon’s leadership.
When political movements begin to resemble authoritarian control, including support for aggressive law enforcement actions without due process, it’s time for all Americans, regardless of ideology, to step back and ask: What are we doing?
This isn’t about being liberal or conservative—it’s about preserving the fundamental principles of freedom, justice, and integrity.
If Oregon wants a leader who values constitutional rights and ethical governance, we must look beyond candidates who align themselves with divisive and dangerous ideologies. Drazan’s ties to the “Trump troupe” make her the wrong choice for this state.
A Shared Message
Both letters express a common theme — a demand for accountability, honesty, and moral leadership in Oregon politics. Whether it’s unanswered questions from constituents or troubling political associations, voters are making it clear that Oregon deserves better from those who seek to lead it.
