Suspect Detained in Downtown Portland Stabbing Investigation

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Police have detained a suspect in connection with a stabbing that occurred late Friday morning in downtown Portland. The incident took place around 11:00 a.m. in the 300 block of Southwest Park Avenue, prompting a swift police response to the busy area.

According to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), the victim sustained minor injuries, including superficial skin tears but no significant bleeding. Officers reported that the victim was conscious, alert, and able to communicate with first responders at the scene.

Following the attack, officers launched a search for the suspect, who was later located and detained atop a parking garage in the 600 block of Southwest 3rd Avenue, roughly a nine-minute walk from where the stabbing occurred. The suspect’s identity has not yet been released, and police have not shared information about any possible motive behind the attack.

The Major Crimes Unit detectives have taken over the investigation to determine the circumstances leading up to the stabbing and whether the suspect and victim knew each other. Authorities said no additional suspects are being sought at this time.

Police have not confirmed whether any weapon was recovered, and they continue to interview witnesses and review nearby surveillance footage.

As of now, the victim is expected to recover, and there are no indications that the incident poses a broader threat to the public.

The Portland Police Bureau has asked anyone with information or video evidence from the area between Southwest Park Avenue and Southwest 3rd Avenue around 11 a.m. to come forward to assist detectives with the ongoing investigation.

This case remains under active review, and further details will be released as they become available.
