PORTLAND, Ore. — A man was arrested Tuesday evening outside the Portland Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility after an incident involving a firearm, according to Portland police.
Officers reported that the man was carrying a gun and became involved in an altercation near the facility. Police intervened and arrested him, later booking him into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of harassment, unlawful possession of a firearm, and possession of a loaded firearm in a public space.
Throughout the evening, authorities maintained a visible presence in the area. Units from the Incident Management Team and Dialogue Liaison Officers were deployed to monitor the situation and maintain communication with demonstrators. These liaison officers are specifically trained to engage with protestors in order to prevent tensions from escalating and to promote peaceful interaction between the public and law enforcement.

Officials said that aside from this single arrest, no other crimes or major disturbances were reported during the night. Police noted that the area has been the site of ongoing demonstrations related to immigration enforcement, which have occasionally drawn large crowds and required close monitoring to ensure public safety.
According to Portland police, a total of 64 people have been arrested since protests began outside the ICE facility. The majority of incidents have involved minor offenses, though authorities continue to maintain a cautious presence to deter any potential violence or disruptions.
Law enforcement officials emphasized their continued commitment to balancing public safety with the right to peaceful protest. They said officers would remain vigilant around federal facilities to respond quickly to any unlawful behavior while supporting lawful demonstrations.
The identity of the man arrested Tuesday has not been released, and his case remains under investigation.
