Investigation Underway in Portland’s Lloyd District as Police Close Off Streets

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A significant police presence was seen in Portland’s Lloyd District on Wednesday night as authorities conducted an investigation that led to several nearby street closures.

Streets Closed for Ongoing Investigation

According to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), the incident prompted the shutdown of Northeast Holladay Street between Northeast 6th Avenue and Northeast Grand Avenue. Officers and marked police vehicles were stationed throughout the area, blocking access while the investigation unfolded.

Police have not released details about the nature of the incident or what led to the response, but they confirmed that there is no active threat to the community.

Limited Information from Authorities

When contacted by KOIN 6 News, a PPB spokesperson said that due to the ongoing investigation, few details could be shared at this time. Investigators remained on scene into the night, and evidence markers could be seen near several intersections in the district.

Despite the closures, TriMet officials reported that MAX light rail service through the Lloyd Center area was not expected to be impacted. Commuters, however, were advised to plan for minor traffic delays as police maintained a perimeter around the scene.

Heavy Police Presence Draws Attention

The large response drew attention from residents and passersby in the busy commercial neighborhood, which is home to hotels, restaurants, and the Lloyd Center mall. Several witnesses told reporters they saw emergency lights and officers arriving shortly after sunset.

As of late Wednesday evening, officers continued to restrict access to multiple blocks while detectives and forensic units conducted fieldwork.

No Ongoing Threat Reported

Although speculation spread on social media, police emphasized that the situation was contained and that the public was not in danger. The Portland Police Bureau is expected to release additional details once the investigation progresses.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the incident involved a crime, an arrest, or any injuries.

Community Advised to Avoid the Area

Residents and commuters were asked to avoid the area of Northeast Holladay Street between 6th and Grand avenues until police clear the scene. Drivers and pedestrians were encouraged to use alternate routes to prevent congestion.

The PPB said updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Anyone who witnessed unusual activity in the Lloyd District Wednesday night is urged to contact Portland Police with relevant information.
