PORTLAND, Ore. — A man held at the Clackamas County Jail is now facing first-degree murder charges after his cellmate died from injuries sustained in an alleged assault inside the facility.
Assault Inside Jail Leads to Death
According to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Sapastian Year, 28, of Renton, Washington, allegedly assaulted his cellmate, Reece Warren Richeson, 26, of Cedar Hills, inside the jail’s disciplinary housing unit late last month. The incident reportedly occurred about a week before Year’s court appearance.
Richeson was transported to a nearby hospital following the assault but died three days later from his injuries.

Background and Charges
Year was arraigned last Tuesday on charges of first-degree murder and harassment. The harassment charge stems from an earlier altercation Year allegedly had with a different inmate on October 9, prior to being housed with Richeson.
Officials said both Year and Richeson had been moved to the disciplinary housing area following unrelated incidents of misconduct that were classified as “high severity” under jail policy.
The two men had been cellmates for 12 days, beginning on October 10, before the fatal incident occurred.
Jail and Prior Offenses
Records show that Year was originally booked into the Clackamas County Jail on September 26 on unrelated charges, including two counts of criminal mischief and violation of a stalking protection order.
He remains in custody at the jail while awaiting further court proceedings related to the murder case.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities have not released additional details about what sparked the altercation or how the assault unfolded. The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation in coordination with the District Attorney’s Office.
Officials said further information will be released as the case develops.
