Macallan Cutsforth Leads Canby Cross Country with Podium Finish

Canby High School will have a presence at this year’s Class 5A State Cross Country Championships thanks to standout runner Macallan Cutsforth, who earned her spot with a stellar performance at the Northwest Oregon Conference (NWOC) Championships on Oct. 30 at Blue Lake Regional Park.

Cutsforth Qualifies for State

Cutsforth claimed third place in the girls’ race, completing the 5K course in 19 minutes, 47.88 seconds. Her strong finish secured one of the top qualifying positions and a trip to the state meet on Nov. 8 at Lane Community College.

Despite her individual success, Canby’s girls team finished fifth overall with 104 points, just outside the qualifying range for team advancement. Wilsonville captured the team title with 42 points, followed by Putnam (65) and Hood River (85).

Boys Team Turns in Competitive Performance

On the boys’ side, Corbin Stoddart led the Cougars with a 10th-place finish, clocking 16:38.77. Teammate Jaycub Aguas followed close behind in 12th place with a time of 16:44.83. Both runners delivered solid efforts but narrowly missed individual qualification for state.

Canby’s boys finished fifth overall in the team standings with 95 points, behind Wilsonville (49), Milwaukie (54), Hood River (62), and La Salle Prep (90).
