Beaverton Police Seek Public’s Help in Finding Two Missing Men Who Never Returned from Trip

BEAVERTON, Ore. — The Beaverton Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating two men who have been missing since September 13 after failing to return from a planned trip.

The missing friends, Eddie Curtis Hair, 67, and Scott Jon Smith, 68, were last believed to be preparing for an outdoor excursion that may have involved camping, hiking, or searching for rare rocks. Investigators say it remains unclear exactly where the men were headed.

Hair and Smith are known to take frequent trips together, often traveling to areas along the Oregon Coast or into central Oregon. They were last known to be driving a 2005 red Jeep Wrangler with Oregon license plate 494QKW.

According to Beaverton Police, there is no immediate evidence of foul play, but the men’s extended absence is considered unusual and concerning for their families and friends.

Authorities are now urging anyone who may have seen the two men or their vehicle to come forward. Even small details — such as sightings on highways, in campgrounds, or near trailheads — could help investigators narrow the search area.

Community members are encouraged to check outdoor recreation areas, rest stops, and parking lots where the Jeep may have been left.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Eddie Curtis Hair and Scott Jon Smith or the location of the red Jeep Wrangler is asked to contact Detective Dan Maurer with the Beaverton Police Department at 503-526-2280.
