Woman Accused in North Portland Stranger Stabbing After Victim Hospitalized

A North Portland woman has been arrested after allegedly stabbing a stranger in broad daylight Wednesday afternoon, leaving the victim hospitalized with serious injuries, according to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB).

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. near North Killingsworth Court and Albina Avenue, when officers were dispatched following multiple reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, police located a woman suffering from what they described as serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Emergency medical personnel treated the victim at the scene before transporting her to a nearby hospital, where officials later confirmed she is expected to survive.

At the time of the assault, the suspect or suspects had already fled the area. However, after interviewing witnesses and canvassing the neighborhood, PPB detectives working nearby on a separate case quickly located and detained a potential suspect near North Killingsworth Street and Minnesota Avenue, just a few blocks from where the stabbing occurred.

Police later identified the suspect as Angela Marie Morris, 50, of Portland. Morris was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on multiple felony charges, including first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon.

According to investigators, preliminary findings suggest that Morris and the victim did not know each other, indicating that the attack was unprovoked. Authorities have not disclosed a potential motive for the stabbing.

During the arrest, officers reportedly recovered a knife, which police say was seized as evidence. Detectives from the PPB Assault Detail are continuing to investigate the case to determine the events leading up to the attack and whether additional factors were involved.

The stabbing adds to a recent series of violent incidents in North Portland neighborhoods that have raised community concerns. Police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in the area.

In an official statement, PPB commended the coordinated efforts of patrol officers and detectives that led to the swift arrest.

“This case demonstrates the importance of quick communication and teamwork between patrol and investigative units,” the statement read. “Their rapid response likely prevented further harm.”

Authorities have not released the name of the victim, citing privacy considerations. As of Thursday morning, no further details regarding court appearances or bail conditions had been announced.

Anyone with additional information or video footage related to the incident is urged to contact the Portland Police Bureau’s Assault Detail at crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov or call 503-823-0400, referencing case number 25-289341.

The investigation remains active as police review evidence and witness statements to determine what led to the attack.
