PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Police are investigating an early morning assault in Southwest Portland that left a man hospitalized and several suspects on the run.
According to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), officers responded just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday to reports of an assault near the 400 block of Southwest 4th Avenue. When they arrived, officers discovered an unconscious man lying on the sidewalk who had been beaten and threatened with a gun.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police confirmed.

Suspects Flee the Scene
Officers soon located possible suspects in the surrounding area and attempted to detain them. However, most of the individuals fled on foot, police said. One suspect was briefly detained, and a discarded firearm was recovered nearby.
Despite the discovery, investigators determined there was insufficient evidence linking the detained individual to the assault, and the person was later identified and released.
Ongoing Investigation
The remaining suspects have not been located, and authorities say the investigation is ongoing. Detectives are reviewing evidence and nearby surveillance footage to help identify those involved.
Police have not released a description of the suspects or a possible motive for the attack.
