Man Killed in Southeast Portland Early Morning Shooting

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was killed in a shooting in Portland’s Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood early Saturday morning, police said.

Shooting Reported Before Dawn

Officers responded just after 3:30 a.m. to reports of gunfire in the 3400 block of Southeast 130th Avenue. When they arrived, they found a man lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity, pending family notification.

No Arrests, Suspect Information Limited

According to police, any possible suspect or suspects had already left the area by the time officers arrived. No arrests have been made, and investigators have not shared a description of those involved.

The lack of immediate leads leaves detectives relying on witnesses and community tips to piece together what happened.

Street Closure During Investigation

As part of the on-scene investigation, Southeast 130th Avenue was temporarily closed between Powell Boulevard and Rhone Street. The closure allowed homicide detectives and forensic teams to collect evidence and document the crime scene.

Traffic was rerouted in the area for several hours until the roadway reopened later in the morning.

Call for Information

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward. Witness accounts, security footage, or other tips could help investigators identify those responsible. Community members who may have heard or seen suspicious activity around the time of the shooting are encouraged to contact Portland police.

Ongoing Violence in Portland

The shooting adds to a series of violent incidents in Portland neighborhoods this year. Law enforcement officials and community leaders continue to express concern about the toll of gun violence, particularly in East and Southeast Portland, where many of the incidents have been concentrated.

Authorities say community cooperation remains critical to solving these crimes and preventing further violence.
