PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Meet Masha, a three-year-old pit bull mix who staff at the Humane Society of Southwest Washington (HSSW) describe as a playful “goofball” with a true “heart of gold.”
Masha is featured this week on AM Extra’s Second Chance, a segment that highlights adoptable pets looking for their forever homes.
A Well-Trained Companion
Unlike many shelter dogs who are still learning the ropes, Masha already comes with strong foundations. According to HSSW, she is:

This makes her an excellent fit for families who want a dog that can settle in quickly. Staff say her ability to adjust easily is part of what makes her so special.
Personality That Shines
Masha’s caregivers describe her as a big, affectionate dog who loves people. She thrives on companionship and would do best in a home where she can be included as a central part of the family.
“Her personality really shines when she’s around people,” said Sam Ellingson of HSSW, who introduced Masha during the segment. “She’s playful, silly, and just has this heart of gold that makes her an absolute joy.”
The Right Forever Family
Because Masha is an energetic pit bull mix, her ideal home will be one that can provide her with both activity and affection. Regular walks, playtime, and a secure space to stretch her legs will keep her happy and healthy.
HSSW staff believe she would make a wonderful companion for an active family or individual who enjoys spending time outdoors. With her gentle nature and eagerness to please, Masha could quickly become a loyal friend.
Second Chances for Shelter Dogs
The Second Chance series aims to connect viewers with adoptable pets who might otherwise be overlooked. For Masha, it’s an opportunity to find a home that will match her playful spirit with the love and care she deserves.
Shelter staff say that while she has been waiting patiently, Masha is ready to start her next chapter. “She really is the whole package,” Ellingson said.
