Deal Expands SBP’s Reach
Specialty Building Products (SBP), one of North America’s leading distributors of specialty building materials, announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire OrePac Building Products, a family-owned distributor based in Wilsonville, Oregon.
While financial terms were not disclosed, SBP said the transaction will significantly expand its product offerings and geographic footprint across the Western United States. The acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025, pending customary closing conditions.
Leaders Praise Partnership
SBP President and CEO Jeff McLendon welcomed OrePac into the company’s portfolio of regional distributors.

“We are excited to welcome one of North America’s leading specialty distributors to the SBP family,” McLendon said. “OrePac and its team share our unrelenting focus on customer success, strong relationships, and operational excellence. Their legacy of leadership and service aligns seamlessly with SBP’s vision.”
Founded in 1977, OrePac is a second-generation family-run business that has grown to 13 locations throughout the Western U.S. The company distributes a wide range of specialty building materials to contractors, builders, and retailers.
OrePac’s Legacy
For OrePac President and CEO Brad Hart, the announcement was both celebratory and bittersweet.
“After nearly 50 years as a family business, this moment is both emotional and exciting for OrePac,” Hart said. “We are proud to join forces with SBP, whose scale and expertise will help carry forward our legacy while honoring the values our family has built since 1977.”
OrePac’s founder and chairman, Glenn Hart, also highlighted the benefits of the partnership. “This ensures that our employees, customers, and communities will continue to benefit from OrePac’s dedication and support, while also opening the door to new opportunities for growth and success,” he said.
Continuity for Customers and Employees
As part of the agreement, OrePac will continue to operate under its current brand name, with its existing geographic locations, management team, and workforce remaining in place. Senior Vice Presidents Darin Coder and Kris Schroeder will continue leading operations.
This structure, both companies said, will allow for continuity of service while leveraging SBP’s broader resources and network.
SBP’s Broader Strategy
The deal reflects SBP’s ongoing strategy of investing in high-performing, complementary businesses across North America. The company currently operates through well-known brands including U.S. LUMBER, Alexandria Moulding, REEB, DW Distribution, Millwork Sales, and Amerhart, spanning 40 locations.
With OrePac joining the SBP family, the combined entity will enhance its ability to provide specialty building products to customers across more regions while maintaining a strong focus on relationships and customer success.
Looking Ahead
The acquisition positions SBP for continued growth while ensuring OrePac’s decades-long values remain intact. Both companies expressed confidence that the partnership will deliver long-term benefits for employees, customers, and the communities they serve.
“This is not just a transaction,” McLendon said. “It is the merging of shared values and a shared vision for the future of specialty building products.”
