PORTLAND, Ore. — Cat lovers have plenty to purr about this weekend as the “Born to Be Wild” International All Breed Cat Show arrives in Portland, hosted by the local feline enthusiasts’ club, It’s Reigning Cats.
The event is taking place at the Holiday Inn PDX Ballroom, 8439 NE Columbia Court, transforming the venue into a playground for pedigreed kittens, pampered household cats, and everything in between.
A Celebration of Cats
For three days, more than 200 cats representing 30 breeds will compete for titles across a range of categories. From sleek Siamese to fluffy Maine Coons, and even mixed-breed household pets, the show highlights the diversity and beauty of cats.
Attendees can browse feline-themed merchandise, learn about different breeds, and of course, get their fill of adorable whiskered faces. Whether you’re a serious breeder, a devoted cat parent, or simply curious, the show promises a welcoming environment for all.
The Competition
International judges will evaluate cats in five categories, crowning “Best of the Best” winners in each division:
-
Pedigreed Kittens – Young cats bred for show quality.
-
Pedigreed Cats – Adult breeding cats in their prime.
-
Pedigreed Altered Cats – Adults retired from breeding or spayed/neutered show cats.
-
Household Kittens – Non-pedigree kittens showing off their personality and charm.
-
Household Cats – Everyday cats competing for titles based on health, grooming, and charisma.
Each category gives a chance for both pedigreed and non-pedigreed felines to shine, emphasizing that every cat, purebred or mixed, deserves recognition.

More Than a Cat Show
While the competition is at the heart of the event, the cat show also serves as an opportunity for education and community. Attendees can meet breeders and rescue representatives to learn more about responsible pet ownership, grooming, and feline health. Vendors will offer everything from toys and scratching posts to custom artwork and cat-themed apparel.
For Portland’s community of cat enthusiasts, the show is both a social gathering and a celebration of the special bond between people and their pets.
Portland’s Cat Culture
Portland has long had a quirky and welcoming culture for animal lovers. Cat-themed cafes, rescue organizations, and pet-friendly businesses thrive in the city. Events like the “Born to Be Wild” Cat Show build on that tradition by offering a mix of competition, education, and entertainment.
Organizers say the name “Born to Be Wild” reflects the independent spirit of cats and their unique personalities. Though domesticated, cats retain their wild streak — whether it’s a sudden dash across the living room or an unexpected climb to the highest shelf in the house.
Community Engagement
The It’s Reigning Cats club has hosted shows for years, with the goal of fostering appreciation for felines while raising awareness about responsible breeding and adoption. Proceeds from the event help support local cat-related causes and keep the tradition of competitive cat shows alive in the region.
A Purr-fect Weekend Ahead
For those looking to spend the weekend surrounded by furry companions, the “Born to Be Wild” International Cat Show offers an immersive experience. Whether watching kittens strut their stuff, cheering for the household cat winners, or simply shopping for catnip toys, the event promises smiles and plenty of paw-sitive memories.
As one organizer put it: “There’s no better way to spend a weekend than celebrating cats — they bring joy, personality, and a little wild spirit into our lives every day.”
