PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A tragic collision in Yamhill County on Monday evening claimed the life of a 66-year-old Newberg man, authorities said.
According to the Oregon State Police (OSP), the incident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. on Highway 240, near milepost 10, when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while in the roadway.
The victim, identified as Larry Jacobs, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say Jacobs was walking in the road when he was hit by the driver of a Toyota RAV4 traveling along the highway.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but despite their efforts, Jacobs could not be revived. The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and cooperated fully with law enforcement. No arrests or citations have been issued at this time.
The Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation to determine what factors contributed to the crash. Officials have not yet released information regarding speed, lighting conditions, or possible impairment.
Traffic on Highway 240 was temporarily restricted in both directions while troopers conducted their on-scene investigation. The roadway reopened later in the evening.
