Two patients had to be extracted and one was transported to the hospital in critical condition after a devastating crash on Clackamas Highway 224 Friday evening.
The January 20 crash occurred just south of the Goose Creek bridge, between Barton and Eagle Creek, near the Philip Foster Farm historic site.
Sadly, as Clackamas Fire District officials pointed out, it was the same location where a 22-year-old Vancouver, Washington, man was killed in a three-vehicle crash nine days earlier.
A small cross and memorial dedicated to Miguel B. Adams, the victim in the January 11 crash, is clearly visible in one of the photos from the January 20 incident that Clackamas firefighters shared from the scene.
Investigators did not say what might have caused or contributed to either crash.
However, on Sunday, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office warned of icy driving conditions this week and urged residents to stay off the roads after midnight and before dawn.
“We have seen and are going to continue to see for several days to come extremely cold temperatures down around freezing, which is going to make conditions dangerous and unpredictable throughout Marion County roadways,” the sheriff’s office said.
The agency said it had responded to 11 crashes the night before, some of which had resulted in serious injury.
If you have to drive in winter conditions, always wear your seatbelt, drive slowly and with your headlights on. Accelerate and decelerate gradually and increase your following distance to five or six seconds from the vehicle in front of you.
Know your brakes and don’t stop if you can avoid it — especially when going up hills.
