Clackamas County’s newly elected assessor is getting the job a little earlier than expected.
Bronson W. Rueda, who has served as deputy assessor of Clackamas County since March 2019, ran for and won the top job in last month’s primary election, with an anticipated start date of January 2023.
However, the current assessor, Tami Little, is retiring at the end of June, leaving a six-month vacancy until Rueda’s four-year term would have begun.
Instead, commissioners on June 16 voted to simply appoint Rueda as interim assessor, effective July 1.
“I am excited to lead the Department of Assessment and Taxation in the administration of Oregon’s property tax system,” Rueda said in a press statement.
“As the assessor, I look forward to working with Clackamas County Ccommissioners, Oregon county assessors and tax collectors, the Oregon Department of Revenue, all county departments, and the assessment and taxation staff.”
The assessor is one of 11 elected county positions, including the five county commissioners, clerk, district attorney, justice of the peace, sheriff and treasurer.
The assessor is tasked with administering state property tax laws, including appraisal, assessment, tax collection and mapping services to property taxpayers and taxing districts.
Rueda is a United States Army veteran with more than 20 years of experience in the appraisal and property tax industry, including nearly a decade as a commercial appraiser and another eight years as a manager in the Oregon Department of Revenue’s Property Tax Division.
