Missing Since August 21
The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) is asking residents for assistance in locating Doris Strunk, a 63-year-old woman considered endangered due to health conditions and lack of access to necessary medications.
According to the City of Portland, Strunk was last seen on the evening of August 21 near her care facility in the area of Northeast 114th Avenue and Northeast Glisan Street. She was officially reported missing the following morning, August 22.
Description of Doris Strunk
Authorities describe Strunk as a Caucasian woman, approximately 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighing around 100 pounds, with long gray hair and brown eyes. At the time she was last seen, she was wearing a black windbreaker with pink trim.
Police emphasized that Strunk has multiple medical issues and has been without her prescribed medication for at least a week, increasing concerns for her safety.
Circumstances Before Disappearance
Staff at Strunk’s care facility reported that she had previously possessed a machete, which was confiscated before she went missing. Investigators did not confirm whether the incident directly contributed to her disappearance but noted it as part of the timeline leading up to when she was last seen.
Since then, Strunk has not returned to her residence or been in contact with caregivers.
Frequent Locations
Although she is missing, police believe Strunk may still be in areas familiar to her. She is known to remain relatively close to her neighborhood and has often been spotted around:
-
Northeast Halsey Street and NE 122nd Avenue
-
Northeast Halsey Street and NE 114th Avenue
Residents in these areas are being asked to remain especially vigilant.
Police Appeal for Assistance
PPB officials underscored the urgency of public cooperation in finding Strunk, stressing that every tip matters.
-
Immediate sightings: Call 911 right away.
-
Non-urgent tips or information: Email missing@police.portlandoregon.gov and reference case number 25-228136.
“Anyone who spots Strunk is asked to call 911,” police said in their public appeal, noting her vulnerable health condition.
Why Community Awareness Matters
Missing person cases involving individuals with medical conditions often require urgent action. Without medication or consistent supervision, vulnerable adults may deteriorate quickly, increasing the risks of exposure, injury, or exploitation.
Police rely on neighbors, business owners, and passersby to serve as additional eyes and ears, particularly in areas Strunk has frequented before. Authorities emphasized that community awareness can make the difference between prolonged absence and a safe recovery.
Ongoing Search
As of now, police have not released additional leads or confirmed sightings since Strunk’s disappearance. Officers continue to canvass the neighborhood and monitor areas she may frequent, but PPB stressed that public engagement is critical in this case.
Community members are encouraged not only to look for Strunk but also to share the city’s alerts with others, particularly those who live or work in Northeast Portland.
Final Reminder
The Portland Police Bureau asks anyone with information, no matter how small it may seem, to come forward. Even a partial sighting or detail about her movements could help narrow the search.
With each passing day, urgency grows. The city and Strunk’s caregivers are hopeful that with public help, she can be located quickly and returned to safety.
