Portland, OR – Two women accused of stealing a valuable gold coin from a Southeast Portland coin shop have been indicted by a Multnomah County Grand Jury. Authorities say the pair remains at large and are wanted on felony theft charges.
The June 4 Heist
The case began on June 4 when two women entered Portland Precious Metals & Coin on SE 52nd Avenue near Powell Boulevard. According to police, the duo used sleight of hand to steal a gold coin valued at $3,400.
The suspects also attempted to steal a second coin before leaving the store, but were unsuccessful. The theft was first reported by KPTV Fox 12 Oregon on June 6, sparking public concern in the Foster-Powell neighborhood.
Similar Case in Washington
Later that month, on June 26, a Seattle-area TV station reported a similar theft at a coin shop in Lynnwood, Washington. Investigators noted that the suspects in that case matched the description of the women seen in the Portland robbery.
The Lynnwood Police Department was able to identify the suspects, leading Portland detectives to pursue the connection.
Suspects Identified
On July 16, a Portland East Precinct Acting Detective formally took over the Portland case. After reviewing evidence, he confirmed the identity of the two women involved:
-
Flavia Avram, 30, of Kent, Washington
-
Ariana I. Muntean, 29, of Lynnwood, Washington
Both women have prior ties to the Pacific Northwest and are believed to have traveled between Oregon and Washington.
Grand Jury Indictment
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office presented the evidence to a grand jury. On July 29, the panel issued a “True Bill,” finding probable cause that Avram and Muntean committed Theft in the First Degree (two counts).
The indictment clears the way for prosecution once the suspects are apprehended.
Still at Large
Despite the indictment, both women remain on the run. The Portland Police Bureau confirmed that outstanding arrest warrants have been issued.
Authorities warn that if anyone spots Avram or Muntean, they should not approach them. Instead, call 911 immediately or provide tips via email to Acting Detective Michael Stevens at Michael.Stevens@police.portlandoregon.gov, referencing Case No. 25-150107.
Community Impact
The case has left business owners in the Foster-Powell neighborhood uneasy. Coin and jewelry shops, often targets for theft due to the high value of their inventory, have been advised to remain vigilant.
Meanwhile, residents are encouraged to stay alert and assist police with information that could lead to the suspects’ capture.
