All dressed up and no place to go? (I mean, in 2020, who does this not describe?) Canby’s neighboring community of historic Aurora will be hosting a series of fun, socially distanced events this weekend to help ring in the holidays.
First up is Fashionably Festive in Aurora, a fashion-first event hosted by the Aurora Colony Visitors Association this Saturday.
“Come and visit us on Dec. 5 for a day of shopping and showing off your best threads in holiday style,” the visitors’ association said on Facebook. “Victorian vixens, disco darlings, film noir divas, dapper dans — we want to see you!”
The event also includes a hashtag contest for the best dressed. Tag your selfie with #dressupaurora to enter.
On Sunday, Dec. 6, French Prairie Perennials in downtown Aurora will host outdoor and socially distanced photos with Santa by local photographer SaraEmily Judge. Photos are “pay what you can,” with a suggested donation of $10. Call 503-539-3432 to schedule an appointment.
Aurora caterer Arlene Cuisine, purveyor of comfort food extraordinaire, will also be on hand for complimentary coffee, hot cocoa and cider — plus breakfast burritos, hamburgers, chili and brats — if you’re tired of cooking.
“And while you are out enjoying our little slice of heaven in Aurora, slip on inside the French Prairie Perennials store to get a bit of your holiday gifts and decor purchased,” said French Prairie owner Kerry Naylor. “Downtown shops will be open as well, so this is an event that sounds like a win for all. Santa cannot wait to see you!”
This event runs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
Also on Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., an outdoor Holiday Market will convene under the pavilion at Aurora Park, featuring handmade gifts from local artisans.
Tables will be spaced six feet apart and all safety guidelines will be strictly observed, including hand sanitizer at tables, hands-free payment options and mandatory masks. Questions? Call Susannah England at 503-678-7887.
Finally, on Friday and Saturday of the next two weeks (Dec. 5-6 and 11-12), the Holiday Makers Market will be on at the Aurora Colony Flea.
Handmade, original and locally produced work will be presented in the spacious, distanced set-up in the Aurora American Legion Hall. Support our local makers and small businesses. Face coverings are required, and 25 shoppers will be permitted at a time (50% capacity).
