The Canby Swim Center levy has been renewed for another five years, according to unofficial results of the Nov. 2 election. Canby voters overwhelmingly approved the measure, with 2,529 (69.6%) in favor and 1,104 (30.4%) opposed.
With voters’ approval, the levy will continue at its current rate of $0.49 per $1,000 of assessed value. Ahead of Tuesday’s vote, swim center officials had told the Canby City Council it was unlikely the pool could stay open and afloat if the levy were not renewed.
“We are so grateful to Canby for voting to renew this levy,” said Canby Swim Center Aquatics Program Manager Eric Laitinen said. “The Swim Center takes pride in offering services to the community and without them, this wouldn’t be possible.”
The levy supports the programs and services offered to the community including swim lessons, adult and senior swim, water exercise, and more.
“The levy allows us to continue to offer year-round programs at the Canby Swim Center,” Laitinen said. “Some people aren’t aware of all of our offerings, and this extension allows us to continue those programs and further our outreach to the Canby community.”
The levy will be in effect from July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2027. The Clackamas County Elections department will officially confirm the results of the levy in the coming weeks.
The Canby Swim Center updates its hours and offerings quarterly. The winter 2021-22 schedule will go into effect Monday, Nov. 15, and is available on the city’s website.
The pool operates 5 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The center is closed on Sundays. For more information, visit canbyoregon.gov/swim or call the Canby Swim Center at 503-266-2761.
