Tracie Heidt Steps Down: ‘Hopefully, I’ve Done a Little Bit of Good for Canby’

The July 17 Canby City Council meeting was the last one for former councilor Tracie Heidt, who had previously announced her resignation.

Tracie began by reiterating her reasons for stepping down, barely seven months into her second four-year term. For her, it’s all about family, and being able to spend quality time with her kids when they’re still, well, kids.

She said she expects to look back fondly on her time with the council, as well as the work she and her fellow members accomplished.

Canby Mayor Brian Hodson presented Tracie with a plaque and thanked her for her service to the city, as did several other council members and city staff. City Attorney Joe Lindsay said he always appreciated Tracie’s dedication and positive outlook.

Seven candidates applied to take Tracie’s place on the council. The remaining members of the council plan to interview and ultimately select her replacement at a special meeting July 24.

The new councilor will serve through the November 2020 general election, at which point they, or another candidate, will be elected by voters to serve the remaining two years of the term.
