A Salem man faces manslaughter charges after police say he caused a collision on Highway 99E near Brooks Friday night, resulting in the death of the other driver.
Oregon State Police troopers and other emergency personnel responded to the scene of the two-vehicle crash at approximately 8:40 p.m. at the intersection of 99E and Quail Street, approximately one mile south of Brooks.
Troopers say a Ford F150 pickup driven by 46-year-old Lazaro Gutierrez-Velasco, of Salem, turned left into the path of a Honda Civic, causing the collision.
The driver of the Honda sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Their name has not yet been released, pending family notifications.
Gutierrez-Velasco was transported to Salem Hospital, where he was treated and released into the custody of the Marion County Jail.
He is being held without bail on charges of first-degree manslaughter, reckless driving, second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants and four counts of reckless endangerment.
