The Canby City Council will on Wednesday consider a contract to replace the South Locust Street Park playground equipment for approximately $130,000 in park maintenance fees.
The existing play structures at the small but busy park in South Locust Street was originally installed in 1995 and is “at the end of its useful life,” city staff say.
“The equipment has served the community well for the last 25 years,” reads a staff report submitted to the city council in advance of next week’s meeting. “However, issues have been discovered with the uses zones and the ability to perform maintenance on the 2-5 and 5-12 age group equipment.”
Park staff have identified the replacement of the playground equipment at South Locust Street Park as a priority project in the 2020-21 fiscal year. Staff took advantage of pricing through an existing state contract to get three design options through Landscape Structures Inc., a Portland-based manufacturer of commercial playground equipment for parks, schools and churches.
The city selected the design with the “most inclusive playability,” at a cost of $130,361.47— which is about $20,000 below the $150,000 that had been budgeted for the project. That price, however, does not include installation, according to the staff report.
