Two men were arrested this week after Canby police say the pair was caught in the act of prowling residential neighborhoods and stealing valuable items from parked cars.
The two were later identified as Joshua Jorden Martin, age 37, and Brandon Isaiah Renfro, 29.
The case began at approximately 3 a.m. Tuesday, when Canby Police Detective Nate Wallbaum and Officer David Wohlers noticed a suspicious vehicle parked on the corner of Northwest Baker Drive and North Ash Street, occupied by two male suspects.
Two hours later, while patrolling the same area, officers said they noticed one of the suspects “canvassing the area” and carrying a black backpack.
Detective Sergeant Mike Smith and Wallbaum said they learned the two suspects were “prowling the neighborhood to steal valuables from vehicles,” according to a release from Canby PD.
Both suspects also had outstanding warrants.
During the investigation, officers recovered several stolen items from the suspicious vehicle and the black backpack. Officers were able to contact some of the victims and return stolen items to them.
Both suspects were lodged at the Clackamas County Jail on outstanding warrants and new theft charges. Martin faces charges of possession of heroin, identity theft, providing false information to police and failure to appear in a stolen vehicle case. His bail is set at $100,000.
Renfro faces charges of second-degree theft, second-degree forgery and parole violation. His bail is set at $35,000.
